Get to Know UBS: Colin Connor
Name: Colin Conner
Grade: Junior
Major: Business Economics
Career interest: Investment Banking
Q - What got you interested in investment banking?
A - I made friends with people pursuing investment banking through UBS and other organizations, and it seemed like a good fit. Some of the qualities that are particularly attractive to me about Investment Banking are the dynamism of the work, and the opportunity to learn invaluable skills really quickly.
Q - Any advice to students pursuing the same career path or internship experience?
A - I think it is important for students to get as much work experience as possible as early as they can. A good way to figure out what you want to do is by learning what you don’t want to do. I think my internships have helped me a lot with that.
Q - What is the best class you’ve taken at UCLA so far and why?
A - Econ 185 with Steve Ross is by far the best class I’ve taken at UCLA. The class teaches practical knowledge and skills that are invaluable for any student in any field.
Q - What networking tips do you have?
A - Don’t shy away from networking with people who work in or are pursuing different professions. Even if what they do seem unrelated, you never know what could happen as a result of that relationship. In my opinion, it is more important that you form genuine connections.
Q - What interview tips do you have?
A - Turn the conversation into a dialogue, rather than a formal interview. Showcase your uniqueness and interests, and find ways to connect with the interviewer.
Q - How did you first get involved with UBS?
A - I joined a committee during the spring of my freshman year. My only regret is that I didn’t join earlier.
Q - What do you like most about UBS?
A - My favorite thing about UBS is the people. There is a strong, dynamic culture and they motivate me to be the best version of myself.
Q - What do you like to do for fun?
A - I really enjoy traveling, especially to national parks.
Q - What’s on your bucket list this year?
A - Go rock climbing at Joshua Tree.
