UBS Position: Consulting Manager
Q: How did you first get involved with UBS?
A: My first involvement with UBS occurred during my sophomore year when I had the chance to participate in the Consulting Spring Training Workshop. This four-week program provided me with a better understanding of the consulting recruiting process specifically at UCLA. Additionally, it helped solidify my fundamentals in preparation for the notorious case interviews. This rewarding experience led me to apply for the UBS Consulting Fall Workshop, and now, I am grateful to be a Manager on the Consulting Committee where I have the platform to mentor the next wave of consultants at UCLA! Main takeaway: apply to the UBS workshops and be eager to learn!
Q: Best advice someone has ever given to you, in general or in relation to your career interest?
A: My dad always encouraged me to view adversities in life as opportunities, lessons to become a better and stronger person. Along with that, he liked to emphasize the importance of developing a resolute mentality to overcome the vicissitudes of life.
In college, I've especially taken his advice to heart – whether it was dealing with rejections from competitive business organizations on campus and prestigious companies or tough personal issues. Failure does suck, but I truly believe everything will work out eventually if you are resilient, work hard, and learn from your setbacks. You got this!
Q: What did you do last summer professionally or for fun?
A: I met Kelly Clarkson, went to exclusive movie premieres, and messed around at Universal Studios. And that was about it, just kidding! Thankfully, I was, in fact, gifted these privileges because ...
For the first ten weeks, I had a blast working as a Financial Planning & Analysis Intern at NBCUniversal's Universal Pictures Home Entertainment division. I enjoyed learning about finance, Excel shortcuts and functions, and the overall entertainment industry as a whole. More importantly, I loved meeting and soaking in knowledge from my hardworking FP&A team, other friendly and talented interns, and senior leadership across the company.
Right after my internship ended, I hopped on a plane to Indonesia and spent the rest of the summer with my extended family. Luckily, I was able to relax at one of my favorite places in the world again, Bali, before meeting up with some of my DSP brothers in Singapore!
